This follows the communiqué issued to the Islamic Medical Association of South Africa (IMASA)- that says that wearing headscarves on duty in in contravention of the National Nursing Uniform Policy. The primary argument for prohibiting the use of headscarves for public healthcare nurses was that various religious groups use different coloured headscarves- and this could lead to a lack of standardisation of the uniform. But IMASA President Dr. Faisal Suliman says that Muslim nurses can be permitted to wear headscarves of any colour.
