Podcast No. 16: Leo McCarthy

from The ButteCast with Bill Foley · host Bill Foley

Simply put, Leo McCarthy is my hero. Not only is he one of the best friends a guy could ever have, he is one of the best people to ever walk the planet. In the aftermath of his daughter Mariah's death on Oct. 28, 2007, McCarthy, his wife Janice and daughter Jenna started Mariah's Challenge, which rewards young men and women who do not drink underage and do not drink and drive. To date, the scholarship has given out more than $400,000. My oldest daughter is one of Mariah's Messengers, and I could not be more proud. In this podcast, we get to know Leo, who grew up the youngest of 11 children in Walkerville. We talk about his days playing and coaching football. We talk about him becoming a highly respected insurance salesman for State Farm, and we talked about his daughter. Friday marks the 15th anniversary of the tragic death. It also marks 15 years since I last took a drink of alcohol. I owe so much to my buddy Leo. Today's episode is brought to you by Markovich Construction Inc. When performance counts, count on Markovich Construction. Opening music by Tim Montana. For more from the Elk Park native, go to timmontana.com. For more from Bill Foley, go to ButteCast.com.
