A 38-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Greytown Regional Court for the rape of a 14-year-old girl. The teenager was raped in January 2021 in a toilet at a shopping mall in the Greytown CDB. In handing down the sentence yesterday, the court further found the man unfit to possess a firearm and unsuitable to work with the children. The court also ordered that his name be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders. Human rights organisation - Operation Bobbi Bear - says sexual predators are becoming more brazen in acts of sexual abuse against children. According to Statistics South Africa, 40 percent of children that are raped are under the age of eighteen. Operation Bobbi Bear spokesperson, Jackie Brandfield says parents and society must be on the lookout for children, especially as the festive season approaches, which is a period in which perpetrators often use to prey on children...
