By Newsbreak Producer Tashlan Naidoo - Today marks the start of Pregnancy Awareness Week and activists are calling for more education to help expecting mothers, especially amongst the younger generation. Running from today until the Saturday, the week is used to strengthen pregnancy education and important issues that promote healthy pregnancy and safe motherhood. In South Africa, Government say that teenage pregnancy is becoming a worrying concern. Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, revealed that between April 2021 and March 2022, girls aged 10 to 19 had almost 90-thousand pregnancies. In the 2022/2023 financial year, statistics revealed that over 150-thousand young girls were pregnant. Director of Durban based Non-Profit Company, Hope for the Heart Pregnancy Care Centre, Jane Wright says awareness and support structures must be formed from grassroots levels such as schools and local communities...
