Two rivers have already burst their banks in Cape Town as the South African Weather Service has upgraded to level eight the possibility of disruptive rainfall for the Metro, Stellenbosh and Drakenstein municipalities. Large parts of the Western Cape are being lashed with a series of cold fronts this week with snow falling in the higher lying areas. Meanwhile, the weather service forecasts between 40-60mm rainfall expected for today moving into tomorrow. City of Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis said frontline teams are now out assisting flood-stricken areas with some teams working on clearing blocked storm water pipes and drainage.
