By Newsbreak Senior Producer Taresh Harreeparshad - Civil rights organisation Section 27 will be going to the Supreme Court of Appeal today - to call for fresh hearings against two teachers who were fined for assaulting two primary school learners in 2019. The two teachers were fined for the offence after they pleaded guilty to the South African Council for Educators (SACE). The teachers' names were also struck of the teachers roll- but that decision was suspended for 10 years. Corporal punishment has been outlawed in schools since 1996. The matter went to the High Court where it was ruled that SACE must review its policy on the matter but did not grant the order for fresh hearing.
