#PODCAST SPRING TIDES: Marine Geology expert discusses the future threat of coastal flooding in low-lying areas #sabcnews

By Newsbreak Producer Shona Terri Naidoo - Coastal areas in and around the country are picking up the pieces after being battered by higher than usual spring tides brought on by storm surges over the last few days. Lives were lost and infrastructure compromised when strong rolling waves made their way onto land. The South African Weather Services (SAWS) meanwhile says this weekend's storm surge that wreaked havoc along the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal coast lines, were caused by a strong low pressure system in the Atlantic ocean. Andrew Green - Professor of Marine Geology at the University of KwaZulu Natal says a repeat of these storm surges will most definitely threaten coastal flooding in low lying areas in the future .....
