By Newsbreak Producer Shanell Daniel - The eThekwini Municipality has introduced a contractor to repair the South Aqueduct Water Pipeline Project. This forms part of the city's plan to upgrade the aging water infrastructure to improve water provision. Many areas in the eThekwini have been struggling with water shortages, leading to widespread community protests. Areas including Phoenix and Lindelani, north of Durban, as well KwaXimba and Umlazi, south of Durban, have been the hardest hit. Yesterday, eThekwini mayor Mxolisi Kaunda visited Westcliffe in Chatsworth where he introduced the contractor. He says the city has put aside more than 1.2 billion rand for the Southern Aqueduct Water Pipeline Project which will assist the city in providing water in areas in the south of the city including Umlazi, Shallcross, Chatsworth, and Folweni.
