By Newsbreak Producer Taliesha Naidoo - The South African Society of Psychiatrists (SASOP) is raising the alarm on the lack of funding for mental health care despite mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression being on the rise. According to SASOP, one in three South Africans suffer from mental illness, with 75 percent unable to access treatment. This is largely due to medical facilities being under-resourced or underfunded. SASOP is currently holding a congress in Cape Town under the theme, Shifting the Paradigm towards Community Health and the Unheard Voices in Mental Health. Board Member Dr Alicia Porter says the congress aims enhance mental health care through a community level in order to address the resource shortage...
