Podcasting, GLEE, and an Author's Provocative Question

from The Gale Hill Radio Hour · host Kate Jones

Welcome to the debut of The Gale Hill Radio Hour, a podcast with interviews, feature stories and commentary. I'm your host Kate Jones, beginning appropriately enough with a segment on podcasting. In this first episode, I talk with Mike Villegas, who was an early adopter of this form of entertainment and information. Then I segue into a brief segment about how I learned to bounce back from adversity with GLEE. (What's GLEE? It takes only about three minutes to find out.)Wrapping up the episode is an interview with Nicole Draffen, author of Hyphened-Nation: Don't Check the Box. In her book, Nicole poses the question "Why does the United States hyphenate its citizens by ethnicity before nationality?"The California native contends that hyphenation diminishes people's standing as Americans. Sounds heavy, but her slim volume is anything but. Nicole writes in an engaging, conversational style while presenting ideas that are meant to make readers think and perhaps even take action. A grassroots social movement has come out of the book. To learn more, visit the Hyphened-Nation website or Facebook page. Hyphened-Nation is available on Amazon in print, Kindle, and Audible. To learn about Mike Villegas' studio, Area 67 Recording, visit https://www.area67music.com/ or Facebook.Addendum, May 2023:My vision for The Gale Hill Radio Hour has evolved from a podcast with a magazine-like format into an eclectic array of conversations and shorts that range in length from 2 or 3 minutes to just over an hour. The new format offers a lot of flexibility, which I love. Over time, I've also rerecorded some segments, including the one mentioned above on GLEE. The latest version is called "A Happiness Exercise" (episode 24), and it's one of my occasional series on living exuberantly. This is Kate Jones. Thank you for listening to The Gale Hill Radio Hour! The show is available in Apple and Google Podcasts, Spotify and other podcast directories. Also on Substack and YouTube;  Facebook, Instagram  and LinkedIn.
