Light in weight and easy to carry, it accompanied songs, dances, and poetic recitations. In Sangam literature, the Pathalai symbolizes the bard's profession and her dependence on the generosity of patrons for survival.Muzhavu (முழவு)The Muzhavu was a large pot-shaped drum made of clay, wood, or metal, with its mouth covered by animal hide. It produced a deep, resonant sound and was used in royal courts, temples, festivals, and battlefields. In Sangam literature, it often accompanied epic recitations, musical performances, and ceremonial occasions.
