POEM FROM TAMIL LITERATURE - “LOVE: A TEMPORARY INSANITY….” (52)

from BEYOND THE OBVIOUS · host Purushothaman C

ABOUT THE POEM: This is a translated version of a mind-blowing poem from Tamil literature,“LOVE: A TEMPORARY INSANITY….” It is about what a girl told her lover worrying about the safety of her lover. In the course of the poem she attests to his bravery but at the same time, she could not but worry about the treacherous jungle with its in-built dangers. The title of the poem is an inspiration from Ambrose Bierce’s quotable quote:“ LOVE: A TEMPORARY INSANITY, CURABLE BY MARRIAGE. ” “LOVE: A TEMPORARY INSANITY….” A wild pig with a prickly and spiky coat along with his mate of fat nipples grazed ravenously in the millet fields. A huntsman spotted them and positioned  him in a vantage point in a cavern and he preyed on the pigs with his astute archery. Afterwards in the town the huntsman’s dark-haired spouse apportioned the pork among her folks. You boast of a bold stock of mountain descent. You may not be in the least be anxious about the nightmarish nights, or on the other hand the wilderness and the stream bed where a furious tusker waits for combat with a tiger. I am apprehensive of your wellbeing by the very thought of the mountain way with a plethora of termite hillocks Accosted by hordes of bears out to savor them. (what the girl said to the lover concerned about his safety)
