POEM FROM TAMIL LITERATURE -THE BARBARIC SEASON (32)

from BEYOND THE OBVIOUS · host Purushothaman C

ABOUT THE POEM This is a translated version of a lovely poem  The barbaric Season  from Tamil literature. This poem is all about what a young lady told her companion about the absence of her husband from home as he had gone in search of  wealth leaving her clueless about his whereabouts whilst the arrival of spring season aggravates her separation from her husband barbarously. THE BARBARIC SEASON The blustery season has arrived vehemently cool And alluringly fragrant it taunts me from the rainfed hedges exhibiting its shining teeth of jasmine buds. It appears to say : Her husband is blissfully oblivious of her squandering youth furthermore, went looking for wealth He isn't as yet come back Who can say for sure where he is. (everything the young lady said to her companion about the absence of her spouse who considers wealth more irresistible than love)
