Poet Behind Bars - Artists' Fight Against Censorship
from HUMAN Talks · host HUMAN internasjonale dokumentarfilmfestival
All over the world, artists are being threatened and put to jail for speaking up against the human right abuse committed by their countries' governments. This episode explores what it is like being imprisoned for raising your voice, how censorship affects artists' practice and whether it succeeds in silencing them, or if it gives them more motivation to fight against their oppressors. Focusing our discussion on Israel, Einar Weizman and Dareen Tatour reflect on their experiences with censorship. While living in the same country, the two are faced with very different realities. Tatour is Palestinian and has faced threats of long prison sentences, while Israeli Weizman is faced with public shaming and censorship. How do the two artists relate to one another and how do they reflect on their collaboration? In collaboration with Norwegian PEN.
