POETRY FOR 30 DAYS IN APRIL DAY 25
from Create Art Podcast
Project Details Hello friend, I am Timothy Kimo Brien, head instigator at Create Art Podcast where we help you to tame the inner critic and create more than we consume. Every year in April National Poetry Writing Month occurs, this is a challenge to write 30 poems in 30 days and comes from the NaPoWriMo site. When you participate you are given a prompt every day for 30 days and you can choose to follow the prompt or not. Each prompt has a commentary with it and a style of poetry that you may not be familiar with. I enjoy it because it stretches my creative muscles and helps me organize my thoughts. I also really enjoy a good challenge. There is also an opportunity to read other people's work as they post on their websites and for you to comment on their work, giving them encouragement or offering a suggestion. Care to join me on this journey? Day 25 Prompt Our prompt for today (optional, as always) is to write an “occasional” poem. What’s that? Well, it’s a poem suited to, or written for, a particular occasion. This past January, lots of people who usually don’t encounter poetry got a dose when Amanda Gorman read a poem at President Biden’s inauguration. And then she followed it up with a poem at the Superbowl (not traditionally an event associated with verse!) The poem you write can be for an occasion in the past or the future, one important to you and your family (a wedding, a birth) or for an occasion in the public eye (the Olympics, perhaps?). Day 25 Poem Needle of Freedom? We have stayed couped up Like scared children for over a year Searching for hope and comfort From any snake oil salesperson to appear Begging for a return to normal begging to live our lives again And then it happens The voices are hushed As we cobble together Standing in lines to receive our release We move with swiftness without question To each station of our new cross Willing to try anything That we are told will bring us back Some of us are raging like beasts Trying to find a shorter line Getting what we feel is ours Before someone else butts in line I Am the first of the family To test my mettle with the promise I am swept here and there With the others assembled, We are grateful to be the first Since we are the most infirm We are to be tested upon for those who are stronger In case the liquid burns We murmur our thanks to the nurses And say a silent prayer to our own accepted deities That this will return us to society But this return that we so prize We are reminded of the atrocities That we have incurred upon each other Soon we will be back to living Like there was no yesterday And the practices that keep us alive Will be forgotten on the morrow Reaching Out To reach out to me, email [email protected] I would love to hear about your journey and what you are working on. If you would like to be on the show or have me discuss a topic that is giving you trouble write in and lets start that conversation.
