POETRY FOR 30 DAYS IN APRIL DAY 29
from Create Art Podcast
Project Details Hello friend, I am Timothy Kimo Brien, head instigator at Create Art Podcast where we help you to tame the inner critic and create more than we consume. Every year in April National Poetry Writing Month occurs, this is a challenge to write 30 poems in 30 days and comes from the NaPoWriMo site. When you participate you are given a prompt every day for 30 days and you can choose to follow the prompt or not. Each prompt has a commentary with it and a style of poetry that you may not be familiar with. I enjoy it because it stretches my creative muscles and helps me organize my thoughts. I also really enjoy a good challenge. There is also an opportunity to read other people's work as they post on their websites and for you to comment on their work, giving them encouragement or offering a suggestion. Care to join me on this journey? Day 29 Prompt And now, for our prompt (optional, as always). This one is called “in the window.” Imagine a window looking into a place or onto a particular scene. It could be your childhood neighbor’s workshop, or a window looking into an alien spaceship. Maybe a window looking into a witch’s gingerbread cottage, or Lord Nelson’s cabin aboard the H.M.S. Victory. What do you see? What’s going on? Day 29 Poem Window As I lift myself from writing on this page And temporarily escape from my self-imposed imprisonment I step outside, just a few feet in the backyard The left over lumber is piled up Weeds are growing underneath and through Trying to reach inside this home I make plans to create a chair for the fire pit That stands stoically in the yard With the branches of fallen trees waiting to be burned The rotting sill with cracked paint holds back the vegetation Since buying this house I’ve never been able to open up the window And allow fresh air to flood into the room When my neck was fused with metal I laid in this dungeon that spawns my creativity And I would look out through this portal Praying for relief from the choking on water Praying for relief from the pain I’d set up scenes with various objects And take photos of them With the light trying to brighten this space That was my escape That was something to focus on while I recovered Alone Scratching at the suffocating neck brace Attempting to find a way to sleep while sitting up Now I lay on the couch With the tv on to provide background noise and distraction And often I gaze out of this opening to the world My soul crying out for adventure, travel, something new Only to be met with rabbits, birds and squirrels Eking their way through this world Finding nourishment in the unkept lawn I can hear my children play in the yard And often I bury my head under the pillows Trying to find the elusive sleep that night fails to bring One day I will open you Remove the glass barrier that is fragile Yet it is a barrier I allow to confine me One day you will be the instrument of my release Reaching Out To reach out to me, email [email protected] I would love to hear about your journey and what you are working on. If you would like to be on the show or have me discuss a topic that is giving you trouble write in and lets start that conversation.
