Police Prep New Powers Against Masked Protesters | Belfast News

Police are preparing to crack down on masked protesters at anti-migration demonstrations, deploying new powers to ban face coverings amid growing concerns over intimidation and disruption. With hundreds of masked men causing chaos—including road blockages and police vehicle damage—law enforcement is coordinating nationally, sharing intelligence on groups like Patriot Platform to stay ahead. Officials warn that anyone engaging in criminal activity during protests will face consequences, while emphasizing the need for lawful, peaceful protest. The government is ready to use existing legal tools, including declaring protest zones where concealing identity is illegal, to maintain public safety without stifling legitimate dissent.
