In the face of a rising China, it has never been more important for the United States to have a strong force posture in the Indo-Pacific. Last year, Congress established The Pacific Defense Initiative (PDI) to consolidate and rebalance investments that enhance deterrence. This year’s budget continues funding the PDI, but largely misses the mark on key priorities.
