Pollies: National's Mark Mitchell and Labour's Ginny Andersen on election campaigning and policy announcements, emergency declarations

A question of if election campaigning has started too early.   Political parties have begun to roll out their policies in advance of November’s general election – but are people in engaging with them?  Labour’s Ginny Andersen told Mike Hosking there's not a deep analysis of issues – the average person on the street doesn’t know the policies from any parties.  She says it’s not related to the parties themselves, people are just more concerned with the cost of living and getting by than they are with the policies being announced.  National’s Mark Mitchell agreed with the sentiment, saying that most people haven't shifted into the election mindset yet.  He told Hosking that once we get into the regulated period, hoardings go up, flyers go out, and door knocking begins, then people start to get focused and engaged with it.  LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
