W sierpniu 1980 roku Janina Jankowska pojechała dokumentować wydarzenia na Wybrzeżu. Zrobiła to wbrew zakazom kierownictwa ówczesnego Polskiego Radia, które przekazywało w tamtym czasie ocenzurowany obraz sytuacji, zgodny z celami ideologicznymi państwa komunistycznego.
