Ponting Wines - A venture built for success
from The Cellar Door Podcast · host Tom Massey
Send us Fan MailWhen I read that Australian Cricket legend Ricky Ponting had launched a wine label I must confess I was among those who questioned whether it was just another celebrity PR stunt. I later read that Ricky had teamed up with wine maker Ben Riggs, who’s wines and reputation need no introduction. A further fun fact I discovered was that when Ricky retired as Captain of the Australian Team, he was gifted 42 bottles of Penfolds Grange, 1 bottle for each test century he scored. I was lucky enough to sit down with David Krenich, co-founder of Ponting Wines, to find out exactly what was going on at Ponting Wines and where it all came from. David is a long term friend of Ricky’s and one day had a vision of taking Ricky’s love of wine and reputation and the skills of winemaker Ben Riggs and blending them into a bottle. Ben picked up the phone and pitched the idea to Ricky. Half an hour later David was on the phone to Ben Riggs and the David’s vision came to life. All on the eve of the COVID 19 pandemic. David brings a career at Moet Hennesey to the Ponting project and takes great pride in confronting those who suggest that Ponting Wines is anything other than a premium wine label. David is extremely excited and ambitious for what the future holds.Support the show
