Pope Julius II: The Warrior Pope Who Built St. Peter's

In this episode, Lucas and Luna explore the life and impact of Pope Julius II, one of the most formidable figures of the Italian Renaissance. Known as 'the Warrior Pope,' Julius II was a patron of Michelangelo, Raphael, and Bramante, commissioning the Sistine Chapel ceiling and the new St. Peter's Basilica. But he was also a fierce military leader who personally led campaigns to reclaim the Papal States, smashed the Borgias, and expelled foreign powers from Italy. We delve into his role in the Wars of the Holy League, his famous feud with Michelangelo, the politics of the 1511 Council of Pisa, and his death in 1513. Along the way, we meet key figures like Leonardo da Vinci, Cesare Borgia, and Louis XII of France. A story of ambition, art, and power that shaped the Renaissance and the papacy itself. #PopeJuliusII #WarriorPope #Renaissance #SistineChapel #Michelangelo #StPetersBasilica #Raphael #Bramante #PapalStates #HolyLeague #CouncilOfPisa #Borgias #CesareBorgia #LouisXII #ItalianWars #ArtHistory #History #FexingoHistory #RomanRepublic #Medici Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
