Welcome to the 6th bulletin from Porty News You may have seen the posts from Portobello Community Council (PCC) about the two “expressions of interest” in Portobello Town Hall. As we’ve reported before, one of these comes from a community group (Portobello Central) and another from a ballet school (Peter Schaufuss). Both groups have now submitted outline proposals to be considered by the city council’s Finance & Resources Committee in March. However, before then the Community Council would like feedback on both of these two options. You can find links to both proposals in the transcript of this bulletin, as well as a link to the Community Council’s page where you can make your comments. However, the PCC suggests that you might want to delay responding until after the 14th of February. That’s the date when both organisations should have responded to the collated questions asked by you, The Porty Public. The Community Council says it will update the information on their website and link to the responses when they get them. Portobello Central https://bit.ly/39vsxIWPeter Schaufuss proposal: https://bit.ly/3r3axLEPCC Comments: https://bit.ly/2YNq8Tq The Portobello Farmers’ Market will take place in Brighton Park tomorrow from 9:30 to 1:30. 15 traders will be there but, in keeping with current restrictions, only stalls selling food retail and takeaway coffee will be available. I think some people were disappointed when there wasn’t any apple juice available for the online wassail last weekend – but you will be able to buy some of it at the market. The organisers insist that all the safety measures will be in in place, with sanitising stations at the entrances and the stalls set back from the edge of the pavement to make social distancing easier. By contrast, we noticed recently that the Little Green Van had decided not to open up again on the Prom  We were reminded by Portobello Rugby Club that Scotland play England on the first day of this year’s Six Nations. Understandably, the club is disappointed that they can’t be in the stands at Twickenham or, (at least) be cheering on the team with a beer up at the club. However, that official line remains stay at home, avoid crowded places & only undertake essential trips. But, as they make clear, here’s hoping Scotland go one better than our last visit there! And tomorrow will see local singer-songwriter Rosie Nimmo feature in the latest full episode of the Porty Podcast.
