Poveglia Island hauntings

Poveglia, an island in the Venetian Lagoon, has a remarkably dark history. It served as a plague quarantine station and mass grave site for centuries, and later housed a 20th-century mental asylum. Abandoned since 1968, its decaying ruins sparked legends of it being a highly haunted island. Despite restricted access and government attempts to privatize it, local citizens actively campaign to reclaim it as a public space.
