Fresno City Councilmember Nick Richardson is proposing a citywide ban on AI data centers, arguing they consume too much water in a drought-prone Central Valley. His proposal would amend Fresno’s development code, remove the planning director’s ability to approve data centers, and impose a 10-year ban that becomes permanent unless reversed by a future council.
