POZIERES 110
from 7News Just In · host LiSTNR
The Battle of Pozieres, one of Australia's deadliest World War I engagements, has been commemorated 110 years after 23,000 Australian casualties and more than 6,500 deaths occurred in just six weeks of fighting. The small French village hosts annual re-enactments and remembrance ceremonies, with some Australians, including relatives of fallen soldiers like Michael Lee whose uncle Private Leonard Hines was never found, purchasing land where the battle took place. The sacrifice at Pozieres, which saw the same casualty rate in six weeks as eight months at Gallipoli, has created a lasting bond between Australia and France.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
