These moral sensibilities are a good starting point when discerning our pathways. However, they should be starting points. We often we assume the things we think and believe are complete and correct without understanding and acknowledging that our perspectives are partial and incomplete. We too often become defensive and combative when we encounter people who have lived different experiences, have different perspectives, and as a result make different choices from our own. This passage invites us to come together in humility, understanding that we all have a lot to learn. We invited to be curious. How did folks who see things differently come to believe what they believe and do what they do? What can we learn from them? God has a lot to teach us, and often teaches us through the people we encounter.
