Praise and Prayer that ascend before the throne of God

With so many alarming and ugly matters dominating world news and pressing in on every side, godly music can play such an important part in keeping our spirits pure and focused on the Lord. This truly inspirational piece from Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 is just such an example! When I researched the origins of the Vespers, I was intrigued to discover that the piece was used to accompany intercession for special needs that the Italian nation faced during the 17th century: especially from such things as wars, famines, plagues, and similar threats. These prayers (many of which have been preserved) were written and prayed separately from the sung portions of the Vespers. In this recording, we rearranged the music from being a sung piece to one for instruments only, led by two brilliant trumpeters, Anthony Thompson and Kevin Ashman. At this time when so many dangers loom, and when corruption and falsehoods abound on every side, let’s soak ourselves in this music and send our own prayers Heaven-wards to the Lord as we for whom nothing is too big or too small to matter.
