Praise Song Cruncher
from The Gospel Network Hosted by John

This is a full episode from the Table Talk Radio podcast which, although it is a very tongue-in-cheek programme with much funny banter, it is still very much on the money with its content. One of the regular features of the show is called the “praise song cruncher”, where the presenters listen to a popular current praise song, and then examine it for false doctrine and mysticism etc.. If you want to just listen to the section I’m highlighting it begins at around 17 minutes in. One of the reasons I’ve decided to share this particular episode is that the song being crunched is an extremely popular song from a mega church in Redding, California called Bethel Church, led by pastor Bill Johnson. Considering the size and popularity of this church, and its far reaching influence amongst other churches even here in the U.K., then it is worrying that such a theologically diabolical song such as this could be used in a worship service. Another reason being that after spending quite a few years leading worship in charismatic churches myself, I realise now that much of what I was involved in at the time in reality was a form of mysticism rather than a true experience from the Holy Spirit.
