What do you do when you're all alone? What do you spend time doing when you're all by yourself? When God, who sees everything, looks down at you in secret, what does He see? What are you doing in those moments? Do you acknowledge that He's there? Do you believe that He's watching? Do you believe that He cares?These questions aren't stemming from a place of judgement. I'm not asking them to bring about conviction of secret sin, although that might be a side benefit. I'm asking to bring about a deeper connection with God. When we're all alone, in times of secret solitude, we have opportunities for spiritual renewal and refreshment. That is, if we capitalize on those moments.Consider Jesus' example. Although He was extremely busy, had an enormous mission to fulfill, and faced numerous trials and temptations, Jesus spend significant time alone. He purposefully entered into times of solitude, often coupled with fasting and prayer, knowing that He wasn't alone. The Father was always there. The solitude, the fasting and the prayer brought Him closer to His Father.This Sunday, we move into week two of our Habits series, studying and practicing small disciplines that have big results.
