Prayer Is More Than a Wish List

Dr. R. A. Torrey once wrote that prayer is the key that unlocks the storehouses of God’s infinite grace and power. Some believers struggle because they do not know how to pray or wonder whether God hears them. But Scripture assures us that the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and His ears are attentive to their cry. Others misunderstand prayer, treating it like a formula or a method for getting God to fulfill personal desires. Yet Jesus taught His disciples a simple prayer that centers on humility, worship, dependence, forgiveness, and surrender to the Father’s will. Dr. Youssef reminds us that God is not our bellhop or servant. Prayer is not about manipulating heaven with eloquent words. It is our greatest form of communication with our heavenly Father—a place where we bare our souls, receive His grace, and deepen our relationship with Him. Well-phrased sentences will not usher us into the throne room of God. But a humble heart, a worshipful spirit, and a sincere desire to seek the Savior open the door to deeper fellowship with Him.
