Prayer that Overcomes Temptations

from Parakaleo Hosted by Ashton Wright

Student pastor Ashton Wright's Sunday morning message from April 3rd Leading up to our passage this morning, Jesus and the disciples had been in the upper room eating the Passover meal together. The Bible teaches us that Judas the Iscariot left dinner to meet with the religious leaders to betray Jesus. After Judas leaves, Jesus warns Peter directly as well as the other disciples that Satan is seeking to tempt them and sift them like wheat; Peter assures Jesus that they will not fail Him. As we come to our passage this morning Jesus is leading the disciples to the Mount of Olives to pray so that they may not enter into temptation. In verses39-46, Jesus not only exhorts His disciples to pray that they may not enter into (succumb to)temptation, but Jesus models the necessity of prayer in overcoming temptation. By observing Jesus we identify characteristics of prayer that overcomes temptation
