The disciples asked Jesus in Matthew 6:9 to teach them how to pray. In the first line of this prayer, we learn that for those who have a personal relationship with God, we can address Him as our Father. If we don't have a relationship with Him, we can have one by confessing that Jesus is our Lord and Savior. Next, we reverence, respect and honor His name as holy. Recognizing God's holiness sets Him apart from us and humbles us. As our Father, He brings with Him by way of His Spirit wonderful and precious benefits of the new covenant He ratified with the shedding of His own blood. God never comes to us empty-handed!
