He's the point.Present Yourself Honestly (PAPA - P): Come without pretense. Pray what you've got, not what you ought. Our honesty often hinges on our view of God (is He safe/compassionate?). God invites our raw emotions and honesty, even anger or doubt (Psalm honesty). He already knows our mess; hiding is futile. Authenticity frees us.Attend to Your View of God (PAPA - A): How do you actually perceive God right now (distant, angry, genie, loving Father)? Our view dictates how we approach Him. Often, we project human experiences (parents, authority) onto God. We must allow Scripture and experience to reshape our view (Steve's story of seeing God's face; reciting His attributes). Seeing God as desirable draws us in (Glenn's point).Purge Hindrances (PAPA - P): Address what's blocking the relationship – sin, unforgiveness, wrong attitudes. Stay current. This isn't just a solo chore but partnering with God in cleansing (Monica's weed analogy). Confession, even to trusted others (James 5:16), brings freedom (Glenn's experience). Consider the "Prayer of Examine": What brought God sorrow today? (Repent). What brought Him joy? (Receive affirmation).Approach God as First (PAPA - A): He is the goal, not a means to another end (comfort, ideal life, etc.). Value relationship with Him above His gifts. See prayer not as a waste but the best use of time (Glenn on Mary of Bethany). Mature from "needing help" to simply wanting Him (Steve's journey).Conclusion: Prayer transforms when it becomes less about mechanics and more about relating to the living God. It involves presenting our true selves, constantly refining our view of Him based on His revelation, keeping short accounts through confession, and ultimately desiring Him above all else. We can draw near with confidence to His throne of grace.Call to Action: This week, practice presenting yourself honestly to God. Ask Him: "How do I truly see You right now?" Ask Him to reveal anything hindering your relationship and give you the grace to confess it. Try the Prayer of Examine at day's end.
