I'm not sure when it happened, but there seems to be this prevailing thought that our prayers must be unique and spontaneous or else they don't count. Those types of prayers are great, but if that's the only way we pray we put undue pressure on ourselves and make ourselves and our emotions the center of our prayers. There is much to be gained by borrowing the prayers of those who have come before us.
