Praying Through Acts: Acts 1 But you will receive power when   I'm praying through Acts this February. 28 days and 28 chapters in Acts. I've done it before, but this time it is because God is dealing with my heart about overflow! It occurred to me that you might want to pray with me! The followers of Jesus experienced the heartbreak of the death of Jesus. When they heard Jesus utter "It is finished," they had no idea of the scope and breath of what Jesus had finished for all believers, even in generations to come! While they couldn't grasp the reality of His resurrection, still death could not hold Jesus. Jesus is the resurrection and the life! (John 11:25) Acts 1:3 BSB After His suffering, He presented Himself to them with many convincing proofs that He was alive. He appeared to them over a span of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. Paul tells us that over 500 people saw with their very own eyes that Jesus was alive after He died and was buried. 1 Corinthians 15:6. It was time for Jesus to go back to His Father. But before He left, He had something important to tell His followers. Acts 1: 4And while they were gathered together, He commanded them: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift the Father promised, which you have heard Me discuss. 5For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit." Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." 9After He had said this, they watched as He was taken up, and a cloud hid Him from their sight. Jesus was gone… again! How would they react? Heartbroken? Fearful? I so glad Scripture tells us how they felt. I am convinced the answer to my question reflects what they believed. Luke 24:51 While He was blessing them, He left them and was carried up into heaven. 52And they worshiped Him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, 53praising God continually in the temple. Dear Father, help us to believe Your promise. I pray for believers to be filled with Precious Holy Spirit. You said we would receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon us. Help us to access and release your power so we can be Your witnesses everywhere we go.
