This week, Kate discusses Evangelical influencers, from more extreme transitions, e.g. a fashion influencer who now offers deliverance from abortion demons (?), to the reality-star-to-preacher-pipeline of young women of faith that are talented public speakers like Duck Dynasty's Sadie Robertson and The Bachelor's Madi Prewett that now use their platforms as ministries. Kate also plays clips from other mid-sized influencers, masochistically watches a couple videos from Girl Defined, and talks a bit about her experience analyzing the persuasive tactics of Evangelical preachers. Specifically, how she draws parallels to motivational speakers and MLMs that all talk in the same way, who do things like verbally paint big metaphors from tiny anecdotes, engineer emotional buildups that culminate with guilt and a scream-crying call to action, and then manufacture feelings of hopefulness after purposefully tearing you down.
