Naar aanleiding van een gesprek in de broederkring in Schagen, heb ik op 10 maart 2024 deze preek uitgesproken in de Vermaning van Medemblik.In Johannes 11 vinden we de horizontale lijn van onze ervaring en verwachting. Opstanding: ja, aan het einde der tijden. Jezus? De Messias die die onze Leidsman is. Dat is de horizontale lijn.Maar dan de vertikale! Jezus die de Opstanding en het Leven zelf is. Die Lazarus uit de dood terugbrengt. Het dochtertje van Jaïrus uit de dood terughaalt. Als een bliksemflits komt dat woord onze horizontale beleving binnen. Het verlicht misschien maar heel even onze duisternis en haalt ons maar voor een moment uit ons verdriet en onze wanhoop. Want het is moeilijk dat te geloven als onze ogen vol tranen zijn. Een bezwaard hart wordt doof voor het evangelie. Maar het gaat erom die bliksemschichten te koesteren en er ons leven mee te vervullen.
