A fehér kereskedők és síksági indiánok kapcsolatának egyik szakértőjével Horváth János színésszel és standupossal beszélget Dudich Ákos. Charles Larpenteur (1803-1872) francia-amerikai prémkereskedő volt, akinek emlékiratait és naplóját gyakran használták fel az amerikai prémkereskedelem történetének forrásaiként. Larpenteur háromszor nősült. Az első felesége egy assziniboin nő volt, aki 1837-ben halt meg; nevét nem őrizte meg az utókor. A második asszonya egy másik assziniboin nő volt, Makes Cloud, akitől öt gyereke született; Az omahák ölték meg 1853-ban. A harmadik feleség egy amerikai nő volt, Rebecca Bingham, akitől egy gyereke született. A prémkereskedelemben eltöltött negyven év alatt Larpenteur naplót vezetett, ami alapján aztán megírta az emlékiratait. Mivel nem tudta finanszírozni az emlékirat kiadását, elküldte a kéziratot Washington Matthewsnak, az amerikai hadsereg egyik sebészének, akit Fort Bufordban ismert meg. A század végén Matthews átadta a kéziratot Elliott Coues-nak, az orvosi hadtest testvértisztjének, és 1898-ban jelentette meg.
