Preserved Through the Nations

This sermon centered on the enduring faithfulness of God to the Jewish people across 2,000 years of history. The conversation focused on two parallel stories: the observable events of history—wars, exiles, persecutions, and dispersions—and the less visible story of God preserving the Jewish people and his promises to them. A key theme that emerged was the survival of the Jewish nation against overwhelming odds, through multiple waves of dispersion, loss of homeland, persecution by Christian and Islamic powers, and centuries of antagonism. The discussion explored how church history contributed to anti-Jewish theology and actions, and how false accusations and violence repeatedly targeted Jewish communities. Yet, their unique identity, faith, and hope remained intact. One concept discussed was the assurance, rooted in Scripture, that even when disciplining Israel, God did not reject them or annul his covenant; instead, his promises endured, as highlighted through readings from Luke, Deuteronomy, and Isaiah. The sermon concluded with the idea that Israel's survival is a testament to God's irrevocable faithfulness. Just as God kept his promises to Israel despite centuries of adversity, believers can trust God's reliability in their own trials and uncertainties.
