President Connolly Deepens Ireland-Scotland Ties | Belfast News

Irish President Catherine Connolly kicks off a historic four-day tour of Scotland, warmly welcomed by First Minister John Swinney and his wife in Edinburgh — the first time she’s met an overseas leader since taking office. Building on their November meeting, this visit includes stops in Glasgow, Coatbridge, and the Isle of Skye, where she’ll explore Scotland’s Gaelic heritage and deepen ties between Ireland and Scotland. Both leaders stress how vital these cultural bonds are, with Connolly eager to connect with Irish communities in Scotland and Swinney committed to strengthening shared opportunities. The trip follows her recent engagements across the UK and even a meeting with Donald Trump — showcasing her proactive diplomacy on the global stage.
