President Cyril Ramaphosa's response to violence

from African Dialogue · host Channel Africa

South Africa’s president Cyril Ramaphosa has had no choice but to hit the ground running. It was evident at the recent World Economic Forum on Africa which was held in South Africa’s touristy Cape Town. However the city didn’t make headlines for its table mountain splendour, but for protesters outside the International Convention Center who were demonstrating against ‘femicide’ and the xenophobic attacks which were taking place in the country. President Ramaphosa had to leave the World Economic Forum to attend to the protesters outside to reassure them that his government could resolve the situation. Ramaphosa has since announced he will not be attending this year’s United Nation’s General Assembly meeting to focus on domestic problems. He has also deployed a special envoy to go on Africa tour to amend relationships with African countries. To help us look at this we are joined by: • Dr Benjamin Breakfast, from the University of Stellenbosch• Dr Theo Venter , University of the Northwest
