President Trump orders H-1B visa applicants to pay a $100,000 fee.

from Tangle

On Friday, President Donald Trump signed a proclamation adding new requirements for H-1B visas, which grant temporary work authorization to noncitizens in specialty occupations. The new rules compel new applicants to pay $100,000 to apply for the visa (with exceptions granted by the secretary of Homeland Security) and directs the secretary of State to ensure compliance with the new regulations. The $100,000 fee will begin to apply at the start of the next H-1B lottery cycle in March 2026.A new opportunity to engage with us.Do you want to have a say in what we cover, ask questions to be answered in the newsletter, and get the inside scoop on Tangle events? The Athenian Empire by George William Cox Mentor New York The British historian, George W. Cox writes that the "whole duration of the Athenian empire extends over little more than two generations." This confederation of Greek city states with Athens at its head was an attempt to present a unified front to the Persian Empire. But ultimately, the strife between democratic and oligarchic factions within each polis, combined with the tangle of alliances between the various city states, led to the ruinous and protracted Peloponnesian War. In this short work, Cox describes the battles on land and sea, and such personalities as the Athenian general, Nikias, his Spartan counterpart, Agis, and, above all, unprincipled, charismatic Alcibiades. (Summary by Pamela Nagami, M.D.) ''Mr Rowl'' by D. K. Broster Mentor New York Raoul des Sablières, a French parole prisoner in England during the Napoleonic Wars, becomes enmeshed in a complicated tangle where his honour conflicts with his parole, and is sent to prison. Juliana Forrest, for whose sake he broke his parole, does her utmost to save him, and in his adventures and misfortunes, Raoul eventually also finds help from an unlikely source. This is a fun adventure story and romance, written in a style similar to Georgette Heyer. (Summary by Elin) - Summary by Elin
