[PREVIEW] BONUS | Riding Shotgun with U.G. Krishnamurti the Anti-Guru Guru | David Solomon

from Howl in the Wilderness

This episode has been a long time coming. Since starting the Medicine Path five years ago, I’ve wanted to talk to someone who knew UG Krishnamurti. UG, who died in 2007, was known as the anti-guru guru, the unguru and the Ragin’ Sage. He was a contemporary of the more famous J Krishnamurti, with whom he shared the unique distinction of being selected and groomed by the Theosophical Society to become world teachers. Both men eventually rejected this title and went their own ways, JK going on to become a well-known spiritual teacher with many followers, and UG travelling the world to spend time with small groups of people who were his friends and supporters.I was introduced to UG through my old yoga teacher who had also spent time with him, and by listening to stories about UG, watching interviews online and reading the books that had been written about him, received a profound transmission that helped shake some things loose and lighten the load of suffering that a too-strong ego can burden us with. I’ve written a little about these experiences in my book Yoga & Plant Medicine and in a recent article entitled Beyond Trauma: Revisioning Trauma Therapy, which I’ll link to below. In this episode I speak with David Solomon, a retired lawyer and corporate executive who met UG back in 1996 and travelled the world to hang out with UG until his death in 2007. It’s a wonderful conversation between two kindred spirits. As you’ll hear, David has some incredible stories about UG that reveal a side of the Ragin’ Sage that you don’t often see in the online interviews with him. UG could be brutally honest and provocative one moment, and sweet and funny the next. He was a man in his natural state, fluid and unpredictable, but always authentically himself. The courage to stand alone, to be true to oneself, to follow your own path and to question all authority other than the profound intelligence of nature is what he encouraged in everyone he met, and what he continually reminds me to do.Beyond Trauma: https://medicinepath.me/journal/beyondtraumaYoga & Plant Medicine: https://medicinepath.me/downloads/p/yoga-amp-plant-medicine-pdf
