[PREVIEW] Ghost in the Tome #1 - Altered Carbon
from Agitator
On this first episode of the Ghost in the Tome book club, we talk Richard Morgan’s 2003 Philip K. Dick Award winning novel Altered Carbon. Kelby and JDO invited writers Jayson Young and Nick Spinnett to chat about the book. They brought the heat. This is peak radio. What is a soul if you can “re-sleeve” it into a new body whenever you want (if you can afford it)? Are we all just random data points? What works in this novel, and what doesn’t? What does the length of a work of art have to do with its power? We also talk about Jayson’s life in Japan, where he works in game localization, and the strangeness of American gun ownership. Nick brings the heavy thinking to the philosophy of Altered Carbon. It’s an awesome first episode. Lots of Brian Evenson love here, too. Check out the Mangaroos podcast, where Jayson and his co-hosts talk the first volume of a new manga every week. Great show. Jayson’s Substack This episode is dedicated to Cormac McCarthy.
