Wilson will give predictions later, not betting advice. No depth chart (6:03–7:46) Mike Norvell announced last week there will be no depth chart for the NMSU game. Wilson (and most fans) are disappointed and confused. FSU traditionally used “OR” listings. Norvell’s stance: best players play; starters already know they’re starters; posting a chart doesn’t help. He hinted they may not release one all year. Wilson will watch whether a chart appears next week vs. SMU. Position battles / things to watch Starting offensive line (7:54–9:27) Only lock: Xavier Chaplin at LT. Nate Pabst will start somewhere among the other four spots. Wilson’s projection for the other three: Andre Otto, Bradyn Welch-Joiner, Chimdia Nwaiwu. Questions: who plays center vs. guard, left vs. right side. First FSU offensive series will reveal a lot. Expect movement; Norvell will want a stable five but this game could feature shuffling. Defensive line rotation (9:28–10:54) Mandrell Desir is the featured guy (paid to stay). Twin Daryl Desir also returned via portal money. Others Wilson likes: Diamante Diggs, Daniel Lyons, Deontay McCray, Kevin Wynn. Watch snap counts, run vs. pass packages, and who separates as a high-snap complement to Mandrell. WR3 / slot (11:09–12:49) Deuce Robinson and Makai Danzy locked as 1–2. Third spot battle: Jamin Boggs (injury-limited last year) vs. true freshmen Devin Carter and Jason Lopez (two-way; also on basketball roster). Lopez has the recent buzz after Jacksonville work. Whoever is the first extra WR on the field in 11 personnel will say a lot about camp. QB2 (12:51–14:00) Ashton Daniels is the starter. Backup battle: Kevin Sperry vs. JUCO No. 1 Malachi Marshall. Wilson and Cole are very high on Marshall; Norvell has said he’s pushing. Expect both if it’s a blowout. Wilson thinks Sperry may enter first, but Marshall could seize QB2 quickly. CB2 / nickel (14:07–15:23) Jabril Rawls is locked (breakout 2025; possible early-round 2027 draft pick). Other side/nickel: Mike Chandler (South Alabama transfer, size), Quinn Darius Jones (strong camp), Charles Lester (long-tenured, highly touted). No one has clearly separated. First defensive series and any rotation next to Rawls will be telling. Norvell play-calling (16:42–20:09) Gus Malzahn retired; Norvell is calling plays again (he did 2022–24). 2022: 16th nationally, 36.1 PPG 2023: 19th, 34.6 PPG 2024: 131st of 134, 15.4 PPG Talent drop-off is real, but Wilson argues play-calling is part of the 2024 collapse. Questions for Saturday: How much Malzahn influence remains (more designed QB runs for a bigger, athletic Daniels)? Pure 2022–24 Norvell / Dillingham flavor? Formations and red-zone answers vs. a weaker defense. NMSU won’t fully answer the questions, but the first look at the 2026 offense matters. Quintrevion Wisner health (20:10–21:41) Undisclosed injury late in camp. Wilson would rather sit him vs. NMSU and have him 100% for SMU (likely a ranked game). If he’s out, expect more Sam Singleton as the “lightning” complement to Kromah. When healthy, Wisner and Kromah are the expected 1A/1B. Players Wilson wants to see get run (21:42–25:57) (Assumes FSU is up big in the second half) True freshman WRs Jason Lopez and Devin Carter — Lopez earlier; both later. Fun potential with Marshall or Sperry. Malachi Marshall — JUCO tape; Wilson cites Trinidad Chambliss (Ferris State → Ole Miss) as proof talent can jump levels. TE Chase Lofton (redshirt freshman) — competing for TE2 behind Landon Thomas / Desirio Riles. Three-TE looks possible in a Norvell offense. Freshman LB Isaiah Williams (four-star, missed senior HS year, re-injured in camp after a strong first scrimmage). Norvell raved; Wilson is almost more excited about him than Marshall because the LB room has been thin since Kalen DeLoach. Watch him next to Southern Miss transfer Chris Jones. Score prediction & closer (26:01–29:13) Wilson expects a dominant FSU win. Norvell is coaching for his job; another Jacksonville State–style home opener disaster (2021 Hail Mary loss) would be catastrophic. Prediction: FSU wins by 31, total 51 points (NMSU gets in the end zone; hard to shut a team out). Barely misses covering −31.5.
