They run all throughout the house and eventually find him walking alone through the woods near the house. On catching him, they ask about the letter, and ask to read it. Mr Gardiner’s letter explains that he has found the fugitives, and explains that Wickham will indeed marry Lydia, though his plans were indeed not to do so. Mr Gardiner also explains that all of Wickham’s debts have been paid, and a very small sum of money is to be provided as a dowery which Mr Bennet cannot help but agree to. Mr Bennet and his daughters head back inside so that he can write a letter to Mr Gardiner to accept the terms of the marriage, and the girls head upstairs to tell their mother and little sisters of the “Good News”. Elizabeth feels awful for Lydia, awful that she has to be stuck with such a horrible man of a husband. On hearing the news, Mrs Bennet is immediately become livelier than ever and is not only excited to see her daughter again but is ready to parade her through the town as a married woman.
