Pride and the Platform: How We Provoke the Mentality of Service and Humility vs. Fame and Celebrity

Resources on Pride & Humility From the North Wake Worship Summit (May 4, 2013)  This is a list of the consequences of pride: pits us against God (2 Kings 19.22), leads to our downfall (2 Chr. 26.16), keeps us from seeking God (Ps.10.4), causes us to be unfaithful to God (2 Kings 19.22), belittles the righteous (Ps. 31.18), brings disgrace (Prov. 11.2), breeds quarrels (Prov. 13.10), conflicts with exalting God (Is. 2.11), is deceptive (Jer. 49.16), inflates our view of ourselves (Ezek. 28.2), is hated by God (Amos 6.8), leads to self-deception (Obad. 3), divides brothers (I Cor. 4.6), makes us forget God (Deut. 8:14), separates us from God (Ps. 138.6), is sin (Prov. 21.4), is contrary to love (I Cor. 13.4), breeds disobedience (Neh.9.16), removes us from God's presence (Ps. 5.5), will be rebuked by God (Ps. 119.21), causes us not to heed God's Word (Jer. 13.15), cause us to run ahead of God (Deut. 1:43), is like idolatry (I Sam. 13.15), is evil and makes a man unclean (Mk. 7.22), cannot endure (Is. 23.9). AND FROM THE OTHER SIDE, A BRIEF BIBLICAL INCENTIVE TO GROW HUMILITY Humility is the trigger that releases the favor of God upon a life.  He saves the humble (2 Sam. 2. 28; Ps. 18.27), he gives grace to them (1 Pet. 5.5; Prov. 3.34; James 4.6).  Humility fuels prayer and seeking God and makes the way for God to forgive and heal (2 Chron. 7.14).  God guides the humble in His ways and teaches them what is right (Ps. 25.9).    God sustains the humble (Ps. 147.6) and delights in them (Ps. 149.4).  Humility yields wisdom (Prov. 11.2), honor (Prov. 15.33), wealth and life (Prov. 22.4).  He esteems/hears the humble (Is. 66.2).  It protects us from God’s anger (Zep. 2.3).  It is the mark of the greatest in the kingdom (Matt. 18.4).  If we humble ourselves, God will exalt us in turn (Matt. 23.12).  Humility is a prerequisite to justification (Lk. 18.14).  It restrains sexual indulgence (Col. 2.23).  The humble will be exalted by God (James 4.10).  It results in humble deeds that are the fruit of a good life (James 3.13).  Humility enables us to respond to evil with blessing (1 Pet. 3.8).  By their parents’ humility children are blessed with the provision of God through their parent’s intercession.
