Pride the Poisonous Drink

We are oriented toward being prideful. John Hawkins points out that often we do not even realize how much we love pride- such as when we put ourselves forward at others expense or when we spend much time thinking about how wise or how useful we are. He proposes that pride is like a poisonous drink which we find to be delightful. Yet it is killing the depth of our relationship with the Lord and has a disastrous effect on those around us- especially those whom we love the most.
