It's official: PM Justin Trudeau announced that he is resigning as leader of the Liberal party and as Prime Minister. This morning he asked the Governor General to prorogue Parliament until March 24. He will stay on until a new leader is chosen. It comes after weeks of political drama that included the resignation of Chrystia Freeland from Trudeau's cabinet, terrible polling numbers for the Liberals and mounting pressure from within and outside of the party for Trudeau to leave. COURT CHALLENGE AGAINST TRUDEAU'S PROROGUING OF PARLIAMENT? And, the group Democracy Watch is considering whether they will make a court challenge to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau proroguing Parliament. WHAT WAS THE MAN BEHIND NEW ORLEANS TERROR ATTACK DOING IN CANADA IN 2023? Libby Znaimer is joined by Dr. Lara Burns, Head of Terrorism Research, Program on Extremism at George Washington University and a retired FBI agent and Dr. Stephanie Carvin, Assistant Professor of International Affairs at Carleton University and an expert on national security issues. We now know that the man behind the terrorist attack in New Orleans, U.S citizen Shamsud-Din Jabbar, had visited Ontario in July of 2023. The FBI are trying to determine whether he met with anyone there and whether there is any link between his trip abroad to Canada and also to Egypt and the attack. Our experts discuss the kind of factors that could lead someone to become radicalized and carry out such violence.
